This was just a normal practice, it wasn’t even a huge issue!
AKA Modo is a mix of Komodo dragon and Iguana, and he forgets to inform the team his tail comes off. Cue team thinking their resident wildcard player might die, miscommunication ensues, and the team learn more about reptiles than they knew before

All he felt was the ball slamming into the back of his head, making him let out a hiss of pain. He tumbled over, his leg bending under the pressure and making a sickening snap.
Modo rolled, plunging head first into the icy water. He thought he heard someone screaming his name but everything was drowned out by the sound the rushing, freezing water.

Summary

Heisenberg realises he has much more to learn before stepping out into the modern world, a task he puts in a reluctant Ethan's hands. Doesn't help that the American just keeps getting more and more interesting.
