Summary
"Thank you," croaked Gil-Galad. Elros shrugged awkwardly.
“What’s the point in saving you if we don’t keep you alive?”
He suspected that those were words the twins had heard before.
*
King Gil-Galad falls, poisoned by an orcish blade, and wakes up in an ancient stone keep with two young half-elves caring for his wounds. They insist they don't need rescuing. He isn't so sure.

Summary
“It is a difficult thing indeed to lose a daughter, but as you said, not all your kin are lost to you. Come visit me in my home. Let me teach you the things you should have learnt from your mother.”Elrond hesitated. That was to be expected. He had been trained to be loyal to his kidnappers. Thingol could be patient. He painted a gentle smile on his face and sweetened his voice.
“I am told you know a little of our festivals and our literature, but do you know our songs? Our dances? Do you know the food we eat and the clothes we wear? You should at least learn of your culture.”
After a disastrous first meeting, Thingol attempts to connect with Elrond, his one living male descendant. Elrond is more interested in negotiating peace between the Noldor and the Sindar. Neither get quite what they want.

Summary
The next thing he knew was light, brilliant and golden as if from Laurelin itself. He blinked, shielding his eyes instinctively until they adjusted. The light source was nothing natural like a tree but a great orb of fire which hung in the sky, menacing those below like a great eye. So the Valar did not need his Silmarils after all, it seemed! They had done well enough without.
Fëanor is returned from the Halls of Mandos and placed into the provisional care of his adopted grandson for further healing. He grapples with adjusting to the Fourth Age of Arda and confronting the many elves who are apprehensive about his return. At least his grandson shows some promise.

“It is a lament,” he said in the common tongue, knowing Men did not understand the Noldolantë.“I know,” replied the man in Quenya. Maglor froze. The Man crossed the beach to stand beside him and continued, “It is much more guilt-ridden than the history I was taught.”
