Day 16: Betrayal
Dan remembered all too clearly the day he became the monster who destroyed the world.
The day Vlad betrayed him, ripping him apart at his own request yes, but trying to keep both halves. Trying to possess both Danny AND Phantom, instead of just letting his humanity die.
He remembers it clearly as he considers Vlad now, after so much time and at least two timelines away. It's tempting, to return the favor, even now...

Summary
Phantom screamed.
Even with the muzzle on, it was enough to make everyone pause, including Operative C, because it wasn't a vengeful cry from a ghost or a poor mimicry of human emotion; it was the sound of a child in excruciating pain.
It was enough to flip the switch in Maddie between her head and her heart.
Maddie and Jack are over the moon when the GIW invite them to witness the vivisection of the one and only Danny Phantom, but once it's actually happening, they are hit with the realization that there may be a lot more to ghosts than they always believed there to be. Parental instincts taking over, they decide to do the only thing that feels right: rescue the ghost boy, take him home and nurture him back to health. Needless to say, it results in a few more surprises.
