Summary
In another life, another time, Albion would be captured by Rome. He would eventually become England and later the greatest empire the world would see until he was toppled from his pedestal.
He would shroud himself in snide insults to protect himself from the world, only the thorns meant to be his greatest protection, would become his greatest weakness. His bitterness and self-hatred would cloud his mind, forever a scourge and a plague on him.
But in this life, Albion collapses on a weirwood, his blood spilling into the roots of a heart tree, and with a prayer on his lips. The Old Gods take notice.
(Or: Arthur collapses on the right tree leading to his adoption by a wandering god through the meddling of his nosy divine relatives, and it changes everything. Told through a series of snapshots spanning over the years.)

Erebus folded his arms over his chest. "I don't know what you're talking about."
"Of course you don't. You're very mysterious, Planet W.” Neptune beamed at him. Erebus just rolled his eyes. "The one who spent billions of years alone in the darkness!" He tossed the asteroids back into the line, gravity strengthening briefly as he pushed them into place. "But I really like to think I can be perceptive. It's one of my many talents. Right up there with juggling and also remembering all my moons' names. And Uranus’s!” His eyes narrowed, an expression off enough that Erebus wanted to look away. “And what I am perceptively percepting is that you want to talk to him, and you're too scared to do it."
"I'm not scared of Uranus. And is that a word?”

Summary
Liquid water wet his arms again, burning against the angry scratches raked across his surface. That lonely ache panged in his core another time, mourning something–someone. Multiple someones–and grieving the loss. He misses them. He doesn't know who. He never knows who. It's always a mystery.
One that he was too miserable to solve.
That empty part of his core, sitting like the missing part to a big, unknown puzzle, stung like his arms, the pain worming itself deeper into his very being. It called out, desperate for the missing parts to return and make him whole again. Happy again. He didn't know why he was so convinced it could do that, but it felt true.
It felt so close. Like the last part to solving the mystery was right under his nose. He could feel it. He knew it was there. He knew if he just reached out and pushed a little harder, he could find his way back.
But he didn't know how.

Neptune forgets...
But this time he doesn't have to deal with it alone.
