Summary
Having gained his sea legs as a hero and as a husband, Megamind is enjoying all the new and exciting opportunities life is throwing his way! Such as the opportunity for his indignant fury to shut down some truly appalling commentary at a networking event, instead of sending people running and screaming. And the opportunity to accidentally wind up on YouTube. And the opportunity to rescue snakes from trees.

Summary
Jack Abbot would say that he is appropriately on edge given that it’s the Fourth of fucking July. It’s only in recent years that he’s even able to be conscious and upright on this date so by all means, he considers walking through Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center’s front doors sober and on time for shift change a fucking win. His therapist would probably disagree. He would probably say that trading in his long treasured July 4th pastime of locking himself in his cabin in the Alleghenies and sedating himself into the deepest sleep his body is capable of for a volunteer position of throwing himself into active fire and dodging bullets for sport is not the progress he thinks it is. God forbid he picks up a golf club or goes to the batting cages or any other semi-normal, well-adjusted middle aged man hobby.
Still, when he walks back into the emergency department just a little over three hours after he last left, he can immediately sense the shift in the air.
or, how it should have gone down when Jack woke up from his nap on the Fourth of July.

Trinity Santos isn't great at keeping secrets. Dennis Whitaker has a knack for finding people at their lowest.
What happens when Whitaker finds finds his abrasive, takes-no-bullshit, mean lesbian of a roommate, hunched over a sink on the eighth floor, hands halfway through opening a scalpel?
AKA: my very self-indulgent take on the missing scene Isa & Gerran talked about in that one interview

Summary
Jack didn’t go in much for praying anymore. No point, not when nobody upstairs seemed to give a shit either way. Praying was for altar boys and little kids and people who wanted their football team to win the Superbowl; for parents in his ER who refused medical care for their dying children in favor of speaking in tongues and yelling up the ladder to something that didn’t answer. Not for him. He believed in only a few things, and none of those were anything big enough to pray to.
Well, almost none. There’d been one thing. A person, really. Bigger than a person, though. More like a grand, orchestral concept, a hope half-divine, fifty-two percent of the reason he kept showing up to work for four years straight.

Summary
If she wasn’t already committed to sitting on the panel, she wouldn’t be here. If the panel didn’t come with an outrageous speaking fee, large enough to cover the rest of her attorneys’ fees for what has become an acrimonious divorce, she would have considered backing out. If the panel wasn’t booked by her agent, wasn’t a part of the press plan for her upcoming book, she probably would have backed out. But instead, Samira is here in Miami, Florida, preparing to sit on a panel at the largest emergency medicine conference of the year, and discuss race and racism in medicine in front of a room of a thousand people.

In all her daydreams and girlish fantasies where Samira imagined the first time Jack Abbot put his hands on her, it wasn’t like this. In none of those scenarios was she delirious from fever, incubating a double infection of influenza and strep, and in need of hospitalization.

Summary
She’s drunk on the floor of Trinity and Whitaker’s living room, and they’re talking about nudes when she admits she’s taken them, but never built up the courage to send any. That it’s always felt awkward, that she’s never felt pretty or sexy or delicate enough, that it’s always felt cringe.
Trinity blinks at her in confusion. “But you’re hotter than the surface of the fucking sun. I’ve seen what’s under your scrubs, Samira. What do you fucking mean, not sexy enough?”
“Seriously, have you seen yourself?” Mel asks. “You could put anyone on their knees.”
++
Samira Mohan turns thirty, decides to buy herself lingerie about it, and takes some nudes. And then she accidentally texts one of them to Jack Abbot.

"I know it's normal." His voice is sharp, suddenly. "I know all of this is normal. The stages of grief, the timeline, the— I've read the literature. I know what's supposed to happen. I just don't understand why knowing doesn't make it hurt less."
Linda sets down her pen. "Because grief isn't an intellectual exercise, Jack. You can't think your way through it. You have to feel it."
"I don't want to feel it."
"I know."
