Summary
I can see it: my emaciated body, clinging to the last dredges of life, with barely the strength left to breathe. The bruising peppering my skin. The holes in my mouth where my teeth have come loose. The curve of my softened skull where my hair has fallen away. A form so sunken that it’s nearly indistinguishable from the sheets that envelope it, yet despite this the shaking still comes, futilely fighting off the chill that emanates from deep within its core. Not a person anymore.
How long will that take? I wonder. How long will I be able to claim that I am still alive, still here, still real? How long before I forget the fundamental parts of myself? Will it be quicker, if I’ve already done it before? Can this vision of me still be counted as an iteration of Ryland Grace?

Journey to Eridani snippits, semi-nonlinear.
Ryland’s humor squeezes a ‘Pfft’ between his lips. “No— no. It’s alright, Rocks. But if staying up was really harming you, or causing a lot of discomfort, you’d let me know?”
‘Yes, yes yes. Is small discomfort for Grace not sleeping. Human hyperbole good for bossing Grace around. Grace make funny noises when Rocky uses persuasive stance;’ he demonstrate by raising his arms again, clicking his claws. ‘Very effective for controlling Human when commands don’t work.’
Two roomates. One in denial about eventually never having coffee again, the other trying to survive his roommate never having coffee again. How will Erid react when the cure for their star is held hostage in exchange for the synthsis of an alien alkaloid?Tags will update as I go.

Mark Watney DID NOT want to return to space, but when he tests positive for the coma resistance gene he simply cannot say no. All of earth joined forces to rescue him from Mars, now it's his chance to repay them.
Imagine his surprise when he wakes a few weeks later than planned and finds out Ryland Grace met a fucking ALIEN. And the alien is pretty cool, and also an engineer.
At least this time he won't be alone.
