As a child, Shen Jiu never considered himself lucky, but one day he received a blessing that would change both his luck and fate. A blessing in the shape of a rock; a very, very painful rock thrown straight at his face.
Then again, even if Shen Jiu couldn't appreciate the pain of the wound, he could certainly appreciate the consequences it carried. Particularly once he found out who was the one who threw the rock at him in the first place.

But Liu Qingge was already dying when he was supposed to live.
What was the cost he had to pay for Liu Qingge to live?

Summary
Varka’s blue eyes always catch him off guard. Lohen used to not like it, when Varka sized him up with that gaze. But as time went on, Lohen craved it. He wants Varka to always look at him, chasing him with his eyes, placing Lohen in the center of his regard. It is, he knows, a dangerous want.
What’s surprising to him is that Varka does indulge him. Cardinal Seamus and Anselm hate Lohen for it. Varka’s blatant favoritism has not gone unnoticed, it seems. But the man himself doesn’t seem to care much.
Or, a quiet moment between Varka and Lohen when Lohen is in solitary confinement.

Well first off, he was a captain and he's pretty certain that's not for the knights. Second he was slightly offended to be mistaken as this Lohen. Speaking of, what kind of leader just leaves their squad sitting in the middle of nowhere?! Lohen needs to come and pick up his complaining children because for some reason they think he is going to poison them?
Or: 4 times Captain Illuga and Vice- Captain Lohen got mistaken for each other and the one time they finally met the person they had only ever found traces of.

"Uh, what are you doing?" Lohen's eyes narrow as he watches Varka's every move.
Varka pauses at the question, brows knitting together, as if perplexed. "What does it look like? I'm offering you first aid," he says. "I may not be as skilled as our medics or healers, but I can at least make sure you don't bleed out all over my desk."
"And why are you doing that?" Lohen frowns some. Varka is just one of those people he thinks he'll never really understand. Again, an enigma. Shouldn't he be pushing Lohen out the door right now? Ordering him to get medical attention (not that he'd listen, even if he did)?
"Because you're refusing to see a medic," Varka answers, simple and to the point. "It's my job as the Grand Master to make sure my knights are in top shape and taken care of."
"I don't recall personally tending to your subordinate's scrapes being a part of your job description."
"Hah! So now you want to talk about job descriptions eh, Vice Captain?"
five times varka showed lohen he cared and the one time lohen showed him.

Varka sat down on a stool beside the cot and brought his hand to Lohen's forehead. “Mhm, you're still a little warm.”
“How long have I been out?”
“Nearly nine days. I wouldn't say ‘out' of it necessarily, but you've somehow managed to sabotage yourself even whilst being out of it.” Varka glanced at the patterns the stained glass was forming on Lohen's lap, then pointedly at the cuffs that dangled by the cot railings. “Barbara was forced to give you numerous sedatives just so you wouldn't hurt yourself.”
“Oh.”
Varka stayed quiet for an uncomfortably long time after that. Eventually, he swallowed dryly and opened his mouth. “Lohen.”
“I don't want to talk about it, Varka.”

Lohen had it all planned out.
While the rest of his good-for-nothing crew were busy making fools of themselves smacking barrels around, he'd slip out, take a shortcut through Amsvartnir, and head straight for Kipumaki to fight the real monsters.
The only minor flaw in his plan was that—unless he felt like scaling stone mountains—in order to reach Kipumaki, Lohen had to get past the Lightkeepers at their makeshift camp.
More specifically, one Lightkeeper in particular.

Lohen could not help but to wipe away his tears, smoothing out the wet tracks with his thumb. He wanted to kiss away his sorrows and replace that mournful pout with a radiant smile; one he has had the pleasure of seeing again and again, surrounded by Lightkeepers, or in their solo encounters during patrol. One that he wished to own in its entirety.
But he couldn’t. Not right now. Not when neither of them could even put a sense or a name to whatever relationship they have right now. He’s losing so much blood. But he’ll recover. He’s sure of it. After all, he has to stay alive to get the chance to properly court this lovely nightingale, so caring and concerned for him. It just wouldn’t do for a knight slated to inherit the title of benevolence to break such a sweet man’s heart.
But you couldn’t even save yourself. How could you ever hope to protect him?

Varka smiled down at Lohen sadly. “Then why do you keep such tight constraints on yourself? Tell me, Lohen, for I cannot fathom how someone as strong as you sees themselves as… deserving of punishment despite having shown incredible strength against an enemy that I can swear on my honor that neither I could win against.”
“It’s different,” Lohen began, but his words felt hollow. He repeated, “It’s different.”
“How?”
Lohen could feel the same frustration clawing at his skin when his parents would berate him for going out and coming back bloody. It was something that was wired innately into his being. He needed a stimulus that proved that he wasn’t someone who could be easily stepped over.
“How?” Varka asked again.
Lohen opened his mouth, and it felt as though his tongue had gone dry. He sniffled before turning his head away. “It just is, I don’t know.”
“If you don’t know, then will you let me make the decision for you?” Varka asked.

Unbeknownst to Illuga, Lohen's parents were just as worried about meeting the so called, 'strong guy who could easily pound him into the ground'
Naturally, Lohen doesn't try to correct anybody.
