Summary
Will needs a date to his mom's wedding. Mike volunteers.
“I have an idea,” says Mike.
Ice cubes form in Will’s stomach. “How dangerous is it? Like, should I call Dustin to talk you down, or should I call Nancy to be ready to drive us to the hospital?”
“No,” says Mike, “you can’t tell anyone or it won’t work.”
“Or what won’t work?” Will asks. It’s like picking up a rock you know a spider will be under.
Mike gets up and closes Will’s door. Hopper doesn’t make them keep it open but sometimes Will does anyway, because every now and then lying around alone with Mike on his bed just makes his chest ache too much. If the door is open he can tell himself You can’t do anything right now, someone will see.
Mike leans back against the door. His eyes are lit up with that special maniacal gleam that the Wheelers get right before they do something insane, like when Nancy says, “Then we have to go kill Vecna ourselves,” or whatever. “Take me to the wedding,” says Mike.
“Yeah,” says Will slowly, “you’ll be at the wedding. Obviously.”

Summary
In one of their summer 1989 campaigns, Mike includes a mysterious, recurring NPC. A male tower guard who appears to be interested in Will. Will is a little apprehensive and confused at first, but Lucas, Dustin, and Max are very much intrigued.
The guard seems to be hiding something crucial for moving the campaign forward, but it turns out Will is the only one who can get him to talk... by charming him.
(Inspired by that one post “Was playing DnD and started flirting with the tavern keeper to get some info and at a certain point I realized I was just dirty talking with my buddy Ben.”)

Summary
Mike Wheeler has lost track of how many times he has lost Will Byers.
He has also lost track of how many different ways. He thinks he should be better at goodbyes by now, if only by sheer force of experience.
For some reason, this is the time that feels the most resounding. Like the trunk of Joyce Byers’ shitty Ford Pinto thumping shut somehow carries more finality than the whole Upside Down collapsing in on itself to Purple Rain.

Will goes off to college. Mike stays behind in Hawkins for a gap year. As everyone moves on from the Upside Down and Vecna, he realizes that getting left behind in Will's life is more terrifying than any interdimensional monsters.

He stops. He’s done running. He’d been fooling himself, keeping one last secret. The same old shit, but he’s done being afraid. “Yeah, Mike,” he says, tiredly. With certainty. “I am.”
“Will…”
“Just forget it, Mike,” Will says, sick of interpreting the expressions flickering across Mike’s face, sick of looking for signals and overanalyzing and dreaming and hoping. “Forget it.”

They just sleep better next to each together, that’s all.
It doesn’t hurt that Will blushes at the slightest touch. And Mike definitely doesn’t like seeing it. Because that would be weird.
It's fine until Will gets drunk one night and says something Mike definitely wasn’t supposed to hear.

Incapable of losing or letting the other win, it comes up in quite literally every aspect of their lives – whether it be one-upping each other while playing games, or drinking with their friends, or even arguments, neither side is ever willing to give up until it gets too tiring to keep going.

Will thinks for a moment, biting his lip and picking at his fingernails, before looking at Mike with a mysterious glint in his eyes. There's a rosy tint to his cheeks, and Mike has to stop himself from leaning over and biting them.
“Do you want to play Mario Kart again tonight?”
Mike and Will play video games. Just for fun. Totally, totally not as an excuse to get naked.

After all he’s been through, if what takes him down is the English alphabet, then the world has a really fucked up sense of humor.
He just needs to rip off the bandaid.

Will stopped moving completely. The breath in his lungs froze as he stared back at Mike, whose face was resolute. A solid thirty seconds passed before he leaned in, placed his hand over Mike’s heart, and whispered in his ear.

The wizard leaned in just a little closer, voice dropping into something darker, almost intimate. “What do you think I’ve captured you for?”
Mike swallowed hard, his throat suddenly dry. “I’d rather not take a look into that sick and twisted mind of yours, William the Wicked.”
William sighed, tilting his head slightly, a faint pout playing on his lips. There’s a mole above them. It captures Mike’s attention for a moment. “I do wish they would stop calling me that.”
“Why?” Mike shot back, unable to keep the edge from his voice. “It is fitting, no?”
The wizard turned his back on him and began pacing slowly across the room, robes whispering against the stone floor. After a few moments he stopped, glancing over his shoulder to meet Mike’s eyes directly.
“Because, my dear paladin,” he said smoothly, “I grant wishes.”
