The Nirnaeth ends in a partial victory, but not everything is fixed by that. For one thing, the monster who imprisoned Aredhel and damaged her memories is still alive, and nearly all of Beleriand is upset with Thingol. And it just so happens that Nan Elmoth is reported to hold a secret key to the Girdle of Melian...
Idril, Celebrimbor, Túrin, and Tuor have very little trouble taking Nan Elmoth, and even killing Eöl is suprisingly easy. But in the process they manage to capture his son and take him as their prize, hoping to hold him to account and force the secrets of Doriath from him.
They weren't expecting him to be so sharp, so troublesome, so attractive...

Túrin doesn't make it to Dor-Lómin from Nargothrond. Instead, he somehow stumbles into Nan Elmoth, where an elf finds him and declares him his husband. He doesn't know what to make of this place, or of Maeglin, who is his only protection from the bloodthirsty court of the forest.
Meanwhile, Morgoth is having the time of his life.

Summary
Nuiquassë of the House of the Mole has gone missing, and Maeglin is suspected of being involved in her disappearance. He didn't do what they're accusing him of, but mainly because he was being carted off to Angband at the time, and is bespelled not to talk about it, so he can't prove his innocence.
Luckily (or unluckily), there is a way to see memories that are under lock and key: forming a marriage-bond.

Let it not be said that Maeglin Lómion doesn't know how relationships worked. He does. He just took a while to figure out they work differently in different places, that's all.
Maeglin gets captured and dragged before Sauron, and interprets this as a proposal of marriage. Sauron isn't exactly opposed.

Summary
Turgon has had enough of Maeglin pining over Idril, and seeks to give him something better to do with his time. Having Maeglin marry one of the lords of the city will grant him a companion (after all, he seems so horribly lonely!), get his mind off of Idril, and let him take up more responsibility like he wants to. It's the perfect solution.
Glorfindel is delighted to be marrying the prince he's been hiding his affections for, but Maeglin finds this no kinder than a death sentence: he had thought that being in love with someone unattainable would make him off-limits for anyone to court.
But Glorfindel is determined to make Maeglin happy, even if Maeglin can't love him, and Maeglin isn't as immune to being treated kindly as he might think he is.

What if her teaching helped her son save himself at his lowest…This is Maeglin proving Aredhel and Eöl’s parenting choices weren't always terrible. Seriously in Canon Eöl reacted to his child curiosity about his family by caging him, and Aredhel ran to her defector brother, instead of her competent yet morally questionable cousins that would burn Arda for her.
