    Or: Wei Wuxian marries into the Lan Sect expecting to be miserable but slowly learns to make it and the people of the Lan Sect his home. And maybe he'll even get to keep it for once.

    Broken Zither Snapped Strings. The Light that Casts Long Shadows, Ender of Four Clans, Hanguang-Jun, Lan Wangji. He is known for driving the elders of his own clan to madness, destroying the Nie sect’s seat of power, terrorizing the leader of the Jiang sect, and annihilating the Jin main line. With those acts, he leveled the four great sects, and with them the inheritance-based structure of the Jianghu itself. He is said to be the Yiling Patriarch’s last and greatest act of revenge, born from the ashes of the Burial Mounds to punish those who brought about the necromancer's fall, an unholy purveyor of a cruel and merciless justice.

    Of course, what is said is not always to be believed.

    As he lays dying from 33 strikes of the discipline whip in the Burial Mounds, Lan Wangji learns Wei Wuxian escaped his tragic fate by ascending as a god. As a result, Lan Wangji decides to stick around. His own death notwithstanding.

    This time, Wei Wuxian couldn’t bring himself to engage in white lies. He couldn’t omit the inconvenient parts and turn the pleading question into a joke. For the first time tonight, he was certain that he didn’t want to. Holding Lan Zhan’s gaze, he smiled at him, but the wetness of his voice gave him away.

    “Because I missed you," the words rolled off his tongue almost too easily. “I missed you, and I’m tired, and I’m scared of being alone. I have been alone for far too long," he confessed.
