“I didn’t mean to!” Mike shouted back, his voice booming across the apartment. The words landed like a slap. Will’s heart dropped, and he didn’t know to pick it back up.
“Look, I—” Mike ran a hand through his hair, pacing.
“Get out.” Will was already moving toward the door, hand on the knob. He needed Mike gone before he said something irreversible—before the words spilled out sharp and unforgiving.

After defeating Vecna, the party agreed to host a get-together every other month, rotating between them. It worked—until the first letter arrived at Will’s dorm, love, Mike scribbled along the edge. And then Mike couldn’t stay away. Literally.
So Will told himself he was over Mike. Over reading into every word, every pause, every letter. With every gathering and every exchanged letter, and every confusing touch. The tension tightened, coiling toward something inevitable.
A lip ring, a pair of pink lace boxers and multiple gay erotica letters and a gut wrenching lie —is enough to give Mike wheeler a well deserved crash out.

Summary
“Will Byers?”
Will glances around, as if there is another Will Byers in their vicinity. He manages a small smile. “Yeah, it’s- uh. It’s me.”
Mike rushes forward, and all he can think is holy shit, Will is alive, as he’s throwing his arms around the other boy and tugging him in for a crushing hug. It isn’t until Will is secure, nestled–maybe a bit stiffly–in his arms, that Mike starts crying.
“I thought you were dead,” Mike murmurs, muffled by Will’s jacket. He sniffles. “I thought- we- they told us you were dead.”
Or, Will was never found in S1, but survives in the Upside Down until 1987 due to his powers and connection with Vecna. Cue Mike, an ill-timed trip to the Upside Down, and a lot of feelings.

“Don’t you remember?” Lucas asked softly. “When we were kids? Like, sixth grade. We all said we’d be in each other’s weddings.” He chuckled. “And Mike called dibs on being my best man, and then you and Dustin started freaking out, because you were both gonna call dibs, so I said you could all do it. Remember? I need all my best men.”
Will puffed out his cheeks, running a hand through his hair. He already hadn’t lived up to that twice now. He’d missed Dustin’s wedding, he hadn’t even been invited to Mike’s (not that he’d expected to be.) This was his last shot.
And something about it seemed final. If he missed this, then that was it. He had no doubt they’d still try to reach out, but it wouldn’t be the same. He would’ve broken something he couldn’t fix.
He sighed.
“Okay.”
Ten years after the end of the world, Lucas and Max get married.

“Shit, shit,” Will scrambles to the floor-length mirror he’d found propped up on a dumpster at the end of his Freshman year. He pulled at his sweater and fluffed his hair. “Coming!”
He trips over his feet rushing to get to the door, before freezing to glance at the tiny apartment. His sketchbooks are everywhere, his bed is unmade, and he hasn’t scooped Bowie’s litter box today. There isn’t time to do anything about it now.
Taking a calming breath in, he yanks open the door.
There, in his doorway with a giant goofy grin, stands Michael Wheeler.

Will is settling in Chicago, finishing up school, and dating. Mike is a college dropout on his 10th manuscript rejection with nothing to look forward to but Will's visits home. When Will cancels at the last minute, Mike impulsively shows up at his door. They adjust to old comforts and new discomforts, struggling to agree on what they are to each other.
