ALTERNATE UNIVERSE - EVANGELION IN AUSTRALIA
One of the few memories Shinji had with both of his parents were at the Ilparpa Claypans, south of Alice Springs, which were huge dimples of crystal clear water, an oasis in the otherwise bone dry desert. They had sat with him there, and talked - adult things, Shinji couldn't remember - but that gentle morning had stayed with him forever on account of the comforting warmth of the hot soil and the beautiful light dancing on the shimmering water. Shinji had often tried to recreate this feeling, especially on his infrequent holidays to the Sunshine Coast, but the beaches, while pleasant, were permanently stained by the unsightly blood-red ocean. Little light shone back, and the stench of the sea more often than not put him off.
