Dick isn’t sure when the centre of their home became the library. He had always assumed it would be the kitchen or the living room but at the same time it makes complete sense. Sure they had spent many days cooking together and filling out mission reports on the kitchen counter but he had known the kitchen was more of a work space even with all their bonding.
So the living room. Many a team night had been spent there. Hank and Dawn would come over every couple of months, Donna too, more often since Dick and the kids seemed to have permanently settled in Titans Tower.
But there had always been something missing, or something added in. It was never just family there. The old Titans would reappear and change the dynamic. Or one of the kids would be having an off day and were unwilling to join.
Most of the time it was Jason’s absence that had prevented a place from becoming their centre point.

Dick kind of hates himself for not seeing it sooner, but in his defence he thinks Jason was hiding his love of tea. Which was quite frankly ridiculous considering it was… tea. But the kid had gone from hardly touching the stuff to always being found with a cup next to him - not a mug, the difference had been noted during a rant.
The way Jason had frozen the second he realised he was talking genuinely and passionately to Dick was also noted.

“Go away Dick.” The words weren’t even said with any aggression, just a quiet plea to be left alone. He’d never been good at leaving someone alone when they were in pain but he also didn’t want to encroach on Rachel’s space. Nor did he fancy sitting down and asking how teenage hood was going because he had a fairly accurate suspicion as to why she would suddenly turn down one of their ‘coffee dates’ that she usually treasures.
God he wished Kori were here, or Donna, Dawn would probably be best for emotional comfort but Dick knew how much Rachel looked up to Kori. They’d be great at talking about this if only because they were women and actually had experience with periods. Unlike Dick, whose name was literally what he was working with in experience.

Jason couldn’t stop himself from rolling his eyes, not that there was anyone around to appreciate his annoyance. Rachel and Gar were once again lost in their own world, giggling over something or other while the tv now played silently in the background.
It had been playing the same story over and over since the news cameras had lost track of the silver-haired girl they were stalking. Or rather, since she had lost them by leaping from one building to the next.
A move that Jason could admit he was impressed by.
It certainly wasn’t a leap he could make without a grappling hook and shit load of adrenaline.
Something told him Dick thought the same.

His breath hitched at the great Dick Grayson’s tone. At the controlled anger that he couldn’t quite keep hidden. In some ways that effort was almost unnerving. Jason wasn’t sure why Dick felt the need to hide his irritation, to hide his reaction from Jason at all. Maybe it was a Bruce thing. B was a stoic man who took pride in controlling every aspect of his person, his physical regime as Batman, his emotions as Bruce Wayne. (Though Jason has been assured that there were wild Brucie Wayne days back in the old man’s youth)
But– “Don’t you remember him putting it in?” His mouth caught up before his brain did, voicing a question he was oddly afraid to know the answer to even as he shook his head incredulously at Dick.

At first he had viewed himself and Jason as equals but it had become apparent in both training and regular life that Jason just had more experience. Everything from fighting stance to cooking the kid knew. Depending on Gar’s mood he’d either want to learn from Jason or resent him.
He had never considered that Jason might have grown up faster than him for a reason.

A dull ringing was already sounding in the back of Jason’s mind, threatening to overwhelm him as he stared down Hank with wide eyes. Hank was frozen in place, arms half raised as he stared back at Jason. He hadn’t expected the man to freeze, Jason had braced himself for the blow, face tilted away, body curled in on himself to protect from the worst blows even as he had one arm curled behind him.
Gar was shaking at his back, forehead pressed against Jason’s shoulder blades as he caught his breath.

Jason was wildly aware of his unusual sleeping habits. At first, when he was little, he was only able to sleep when his mother had been there to provide some modicum of safety and comfort. Later, in foster care he had been too scared to sleep. The streets had him develop the ability to dose and nap anywhere while still maintaining some form of awareness. And it didn’t take a genius to work out that most vigilantes suffered from insomnia. To the point that it was easier to get them all together for meetings during the witching hour.
Moving to Wayne Manor had changed a few things. At first all he had done was sleep as his body recovered from years of stress. Then he became uncomfortable in the great yawning halls of the manor. Every room was too big, too bright, so he had begun making hideaways to stay safe and rest in.
In a way being on the run was almost comforting in its familiarity.
