Sirius’s thoughts are a slow-moving, impending disaster. How he wants to pin Remus up against the cupboards, to crowd him into a corner; how he wants to intertwine their fingers, to brush his lips against Remus’s forehead, his jaw. Instead, he settles for ducking his head and sliding a finger through the belt loop of Remus's jeans—a ridiculous gesture so utterly intimate, even for the pair of them, that he only allows it because he’s just drunk enough.
“Stop stealing my bloody clothes, Lupin.” He says, very quietly.
Remus looks up at him, eyes dark, and murmurs pleasantly: “Better learn to do your own laundry then, Black. Consider it my fee.”

“It could be great though, this is a big step, you’re not just playing to the same crowd at Arlene’s every weekend.” Another shrug, another drag and Remus is tamping down the nerves growing. They’ve been eating away at him, a slow creep, ever since the announcement.
Sirius’s excited face, shoving the papers at the rest of them, vibrating with anticipation and all he could think about was how sweet it all seemed.
“Yeah it could be nice.” He takes a deep breath, stretching out and looking at the plaster moulding around the ceiling light.

Remus hasn’t quite managed to work out why James’s family have a house in Edinburgh, beyond them seeming to have a house just about everywhere, and this is apparently one the family seldom use so it had been easy enough for James to tell them he and Sirius were heading up for a few days without the need for much secrecy. The need for any secrecy at all does still niggle slightly at the back of Remus’s mind, though; how nice it would be to be open about all this, and to think that even just one person in Sirius’s world would be accepting of him.
The boys head up to Edinburgh for three days of freedom, whisky, and bagpipes.
