Season 4 AU:
Merlin's carried Arthur's sigil around everywhere after being entrusted with it. One day he runs into trouble, where the wrong people discover the sigil, and he gets mistaken as Arthur's husband. Shane Hollander is being personally victimised by his new brand deal involving his Apple Watch.
In its defence, the Apple Watch is only doing what it is designed to do:

- logging suspicious late-night “Other” workouts.
Also, it is adhering to it's unique bonus features. Features specifically designed to make Shane's life hell. The main one being: notifying his mother about his late night "work outs" with Ilya.

Summary
When Merlin's mother is kidnapped and held ransom, Merlin takes off to save her... unfortunately, Arthur follows, so Merlin can't simply beat these villains over the head with magic.
Except, when forced into a corner, Merlin does use his magic, and Arthur just rolls his eyes and says "Took you long enough."
Arthur had no idea Merlin was even TRYING to hide his magic.
