Summary
Pedro Madrigal had thought that his soul would ascend to Heaven (or whatever afterlife awaited him) after his death at the hands of the marauders who hunted him, his family and people down after they fled their burning village.
However, in return for creating the Encanto to protect Alma and the other fleeing villagers, the magic that lives within the land takes Pedro's soul as payment and traps him in his and Alma's wedding candle, using him to power the newly-created Casita.
Pedro must navigate this new reality while being at the mercy of forces greater than himself. Will his soul ever be free again?

Hello to everyone who has read this story or is just discovering it. I published/wrote the entirety of it in only six months, but I wanted to make it the best that it could be, so I underwent a huge editing process. It's now finished! Nothing has changed majorly, mostly grammatical fixes and adding more detail, making it almost 5000 words longer. I tried to stay true to canon but also explore something entirely different.
