Summary
Ariane's hair shed in matted clumps alongside her teeth and you finally convinced her to spend more time within the cryogenic pod. Brimstone pooled in your mouth.
A ghost roamed the ship and it became harder to recognize it as your wife. Flames singed your mind.
Ariane wailed in pain from the cryogenic pod you'd been too afraid to turn on for you to keep your promise, an impossibility even if the servos in your legs hadn't stopped functioning cycles ago. You weren't built to be able to. Sitting there, hearing your wife slowly die, it all finally clicked.
Hell was real. And you were being welcomed home.
A fractured mind denied rest; a blind zealot chasing soot; A bifurcated god on a decaying throne: each soul trapped in an unending hell at the hands of a machine refusing itself penance.
No more.
Repent, Elster.
Grant us Salvation.
-or-
Elster, having looped enough for her memory to remain between each cycle, can't seem to keep her mind off the old Vinetan bible Ariane had stashed aboard the Penrose.

“I asked Celine to kill me.”
Rumi doesn’t know what compelled her to say that. The sound of chopsticks clattering to the floor, though, stokes an immediate regret that urges her to get up and run.

Summary
Rumi hadn’t meant to cause such a scene. She just wasn’t thinking straight.
Celine had told her Zoey and Mira would kill her if they found out what she was, and Rumi had come to the conclusion that she was probably right.
Her plan, as tenuous a description as that word was, was to cut the patterns out. If she could cut out the parts of her that made her dangerous, that made her less than human, that made her so unloveable, maybe she’d stop feeling so fucking guilty every time Mira or Zoey opened up to her.
They loved each other from the start, but it just wasn't that simple.

Summary
It didn’t have to mean that she and Yukiko were…like that, what they did. Not necessarily.
Maybe the fumes in Kanji’s bathhouse had just gotten to them, spending so many hours in there fighting and sweating. They’d been tired, and sore, and Chie had eaten too much at Aiya, and hadn’t wanted to walk home after she dropped Yukiko off at the inn, and when they’d gotten under the covers together, maybe all those factors had just come together and gotten a little messy and –
Chie stands up and busies herself trying to find her jacket and her socks. Maybe it had been nothing but them both being tired and addled from spending too long in the TV.
When Yukiko comes out of the shower, Chie thinks, they’ll talk about it.
--
After saving Kanji from the TV, Chie and Yukiko’s relationship goes in a significantly different direction than either of them expected. Turns out that just facing your Shadow isn’t enough to resolve all your issues – the rest have to be unpacked, one by one, piece by piece.Bookmarked by BerryBushel
