When Starecross receives reports of disturbances in a wild part of the moor named Gorse Hollow, Childermass has few concerns about accompanying John Segundus to investigate them. Magic is his business, the first turn of spring is in the air, and he has been in love with Segundus for so long that he's in no danger of actually admitting it. Yet something sinister awaits them amongst the thorns, and Childermass realises too late that Gorse Hollow may threaten all he holds dear.
