Two years after the Battle for the Living, the harshest winter in living memory still hasn’t ended. Sansa Stark is desperate to save what’s left of her people, but there’s nothing she can do except hope that they don’t all slowly starve before winter ends.
Well, nothing she can do until the Old Gods hear her desperate plea and send her back to Winterfell months before King Robert stepped foot in the North. Now all the “what ifs” she’s spent contemplating are possible and she’s promised the Old Gods she would do anything to save her family and the people of the North even if that meant staining her honor, allying with old enemies, or entering yet another unwanted marriage.
Or the one in which the Old Gods have zero tact and Sansa is determined to keep the game of thrones from ruining her family or the North.

Summary
After her husband takes a second wife Aemma Arryn spends most of her time in the Vale amongst the mountains and her kin. Estranged from her only child Aemma has spent the past decade healing from her deep wounds. In the capital for the nameday tournament for her grandchild Lucerys Aemma and her niece Rhea keep to themselves and their fellow Valemen.
But when an accident nearly kills the King’s eldest son Aemma and Rhea are the only ones brave enough to save the boy. Not wanting any child to die Aemma expects that to be the end of the debacle. Soon she gains a second shadow of an eleven year old boy and his golden dragon.

Young Daemon wakes from a terrible dream where an ancestor explained exactly how his impetuous and violent nature damaged everyone he loved and contributed to the fall of his family. An emotionally damaged Daemon decides he has to change, no matter how much he wants to insist that a prince of the blood should get his way. And if that means he must marry an ugly woman, he will close his eyes and comply. But he might find that sometimes love that is slow to grow can make the strongest bonds.
