    Gigi felt so awkward he almost turned right back around. He knew how heavy armor was, it wasn’t his first time wearing it. But there were no gauntlets on his fists, or a sword on his hip. Every weapon was tucked away in their respective places. He was safe here, there was no need for them.

    His body didn’t seem to have gotten the memo, with the way his heart drummed in his ears.

    “You made it. Of course it was good!” It was a simple sandwich, doubtless one of the few things Amelia knew how to make. But it was warm, with the crust of the bread cut off. He imagined her making it, putting it together after carefully trimming off the edges. Placing it on a plate and waiting for him to come home.

    It made him feel all warm inside, a bit gooey at the seams. After he wolfed it down, he kissed her, till she complained that he tasted a bit like egg.
