(They're probably judging me.) he thinks. Despite the resulting crawling panic, he can’t be bothered to look back. He’s frozen in place by his own thoughts - perhaps bound by his survival instinct - shocked at this bubbling desire for death yet brimming with what could be mistaken for excitement, to try.
