Summary
She feels what she knows, from prior experience, is a phantom itch from the ivy as she watches him cleaning the blood off the shoe attached to his prosthetic foot. It happens every time she sees his prosthesis, or notices that he’s limping slightly after a long shift on his feet. It always itches and she always has to restrain herself from rubbing it, from pulling up the leg of her scrubs and scratching it, even though she knows it won’t help.
Phantom itches can’t be truly scratched, after all.
And that’s exactly what Dr. Jack Abbot is.
A constant, burning, phantom, poison ivy kind of itch.

Summary
Jack shifts, drawing her focus back, and he's still watching her, now with his arm lifted in invitation. It doesn't matter that they're in a poor excuse for a sauna nor that they cuddle plenty every single day. Anytime that Jack coaxes her in like this, she jumps at the opportunity. She presses against his side, then shivers at the feel of their bare bodies being flush. She went more years than she'd like to admit being totally touch-starved. Sometimes the ripples of relief still surprise her.

Their air conditioner may have broken down during a heat wave, but Samira and Jack still can't keep their hands off of each other.

Summary
“You know, I think we have this tendency to think of chaos as a bad thing. Like, if something’s chaotic it must be harmful, and it must be changed, or…ordered. But I think chaos itself is…natural, you know? The world around us thrives on chaos. Small changes make big differences. The butterfly effect, I guess. And, at its best, out of chaos comes creativity. I think it’s more about how we respond to the chaos that counts.”
“And how do I...we— How does anyone do that? Respond to the chaos?”
“I guess…learn to ride the wave, chef.”

Summary
With PTMC short-staffed, Jack has worked himself to the bone. Samira tests a theory that she can get Jack to take care of himself if he thinks he's taking care of her.
--
They eat with the faint murmur of the ED as a soundtrack. She pulls apart small pieces of her egg and cheese english muffin. Abbot wolfs down the burrito and studies the remains of the wrapper, as though his own hunger has surprised him.
Her lips twitch with sympathetic amusement. How oblivious he’s been to his own needs. There’s a strange delight too, in finding Ellis was right. He’ll listen to her. He’ll give in, if it’s her. The thrill down her spine is electric. She wants to know how far she can push this. Exactly how close she can get before he says no or sees through her. How good would he be to himself if she asked it of him? Will he let her love him in this transitive way? Care for yourself because you care about me and I care about you.
Well. Samira Mohan is nothing if not data-driven.
