Trying to hold onto his fight, Peter shoots back, “Yeah? And what’s that?”
“To have nothing, after being able to believe you could have everything.”
The streets are dirty, crowded, and the jagged bumps in the asphalt are hardly comfortable to sleep on. They’re home, though.
Peter is just about finished with New York City. It’s gotten impossibly harder to find even a scrap of food, and what little belongings he does have are unlikely to keep him alive through the winter. And the memories. God, the painful memories here.
So he saves up. Makes a plan to get out of there.
Then, somehow, he accidentally saves Tony fucking Stark from a gang of eight mercenaries, and the majestic plan disintegrates into ash.
The worst part about it, he knows, isn’t even that he met Tony. It’s that Tony met him.

When Tony Stark walked into that diner he knew he was a lot of things. He was a billionaire, a superhero, and very pissed off that he had to wait in line for his coffee.
Gawkers were looking and paparazzi was swirling all around him trying to get pictures. He really wished he’d listened to Pepper and just got another assistant...then he saw him, that adorable little boy with those blue-rimmed glasses kicking his legs and reading the Science Today Magazine.
Or where Peter is a kid during CACW and he meets Peter right after Siberia.

Tony’s hands wrung together, under the hot water, and he blinked, head low. Wakanda’s palace was a bustle of voices and truth be told, he wasn’t happy to arrive two hours ago, even after spending two weeks in space because Nebula’s ship had been damaged during the fight on Titan. He imagined he should have been relieved to get to Earth. Should have been more than happy to get off the ship. But he wasn’t quite right, then. He wasn’t right.
Not a lot was.
He could hear them through the walls, even from the shower. People talking, everyone inside. Trying to figure out what to do while Tony let the hot water burn his skin, scalding, from a shower and washing away his fucking child’s ashes. Like…non-existence and never-existence were being washed down the drain and Tony imagined his son being washed away like that.

Summary
Peter Parker was back from the dead. At least that is what everybody told him. He'd been snapped out of existence until some sort of time travel and an active death wish by his mentor had saved him and the universe. Just your average sort of life for a 16 year old from Queens.
Peter comes back to find May has a husband and a kid. A new family he has to fit into. But he has done it before, he can do it again.
The only thing that feels solid is Tony: the Blip and fatherhood have mellowed him and Peter loves the bond they have now. He knows Tony would be there for him through anything. But Tony needs to focus on his own recovery - not small time Peter Parker problems. When things at home take a turn for the worse, Peter decides that he'll handle it himself. He is Spider-man. He's been to space and fought aliens. He can get through anything. After all, if May is happy, he is happy, right? Right?
