Summary

He wonders, though, and he often catches himself hoping that the words engraved in his neck are meant to one day leave Ashton’s mouth, and that the words on Ashton’s neck will one day leave Luke’s.

“Alright what the fuck?” Michael shouts, dropping himself down in the open corner of the couch. “What the fuck?” he says again, leaning forward on his knees, staring at Ashton across the room.
Ashton just shrugs. “He left me.”
The lack of emotion in his voice is concerning, completely free of the bubbling laughter and attitude filled charm that normally coats his words. It’s just empty, sort of bitter but mostly void of feeling, like he’s detached himself from the situation completely.
“But why?” Luke finds himself saying.
“He doesn’t love me anymore.”

The sincerity in Luke’s voice terrifies Ashton, leaving him tongue tied and treading carefully on a tightrope high above the ground. But what exactly is he supposed to say? “Yeah, I’ve been convinced that no one wants to hear me talk since I was a pre-teen?” Or, “I get so passionate about things that I love and that in itself drives people away? After a knee injury, Dean Winchester’s ballet career could very well be over. Refusing to think about it too much, Dean returns to his hometown to take some time off and relax. However, when his old ballet teacher Rowena gets sick he has to take over teaching, and he keeps seeing his ex-boyfriend around town. An ex who he definitely doesn’t have any feelings for anymore… right?
Castiel Novak has a good life. He loves his two adopted children, Jack and Claire, and he’s happy with his job as a paramedic. There’s nothing more he needs. Least of all having his ex from back when he was a teenager show up suddenly and distract him from what’s important. Which shouldn’t even be a problem because Cas is totally over him… right?
With some meddling from Charlie, Dean and Cas find themselves confronted with feelings they thought were left in the past.

Which is perfect for him, because that’s exactly when he craves coffee the most while doing the overnight at the fire hall. The coffee shop’s owner is pretty perfect too, but it’s kind of a bummer that Dean never gets to see Cas during the day. In a world where the supernatural live more or less in peace with the rest of humanity, it’s a little impolite to ask Cas just what he really is - or what his dark past entails.

Except Dean must have done something to epically piss off the universe because Jess’s best man just happens to be Castiel friggin’ Novak. When Gabe's cousin comes to live with him while starting grad school at Sam's university, Dean thinks for sure that all his negative karma's coming to bite him in the ass because Cas clearly has a thing for Sam. No one would ever choose him over Sam. That's just logic.
