Summary
The solicitor’s office smelled of parchment and beeswax and the past. Colin sat with his shoulders locked. Lady Danbury’s presence at his side was a cane struck against fear.
Bequests were named. Trusts described. Then, like a blade sliding cleanly in, came the thing that would reconfigure his every hour.
“…guardianship of August Basset, and the stewardship of the Hastings estates,” the solicitor read, voice carefully neutral, “to Colin Bridgerton, Viscount Bridgerton, until such time as the child attains his majority.”
The world narrowed. Auggie. Daphne’s son. Simon’s heir. A baby who, as of this hour, had no mother or father left in the world.

After a tragic accident, Colin is left to become Viscount, the guardian of August, and to find a new normal in a life he never thought he would have. This will go through the first few months after the accident, then fast-forward, because, as the tags suggest, people may not have actually died, which will make for some drama.
