Shane gasped and stumbled backwards. “Three weeks? You decided-” his hands flew to his mouth. “How could you do this without talking to me? This is what? To punish me because I won’t come out on your timeline?”
Ilya felt a stab of anger. “You won’t come out on any timeline!”
Shane blinked at him. “I literally drove here tonight because I wanted to know if you would accept six to twelve months!”
“A timeline,” he barked. “This is our lives, Shane. I want to be with you fully now. I know you are scared, but you need to be brave, and I am so deeply fucking unhappy being your dirty little secret.”
“That’s not fair Ilya, it’s going to be complicated for me. I’m already the only Asian captain in the league! The media, sponsors, the Voyageurs? It’s going to need to be carefully managed-”
Or: After the Boxing Day fight, Ilya loses faith in the idea that Shane will come out quickly and decides to make a wild move and agrees on a trade to Vancouver. Can these two idiots in love find their way back to each other?

Summary
Ilya heard the doorbell ring for the fourth time and hauled himself off the couch. Walking over to the door he thought through the logistics of the situation. It was 11 P.M.. How many visitors came to his house, uninvited, this late? With the half-hearted hope of not getting killed, he opened the door, revealing a snotty, sobbing, sad, Shane Hollander.
“Wha-” Before he could form words, Shane was pushing through the threshold, collapsing into Ilya’s chest.
“I hate you, I hate you, I hate you, I hate you!”
_Ilya stands Shane up at the cottage, going to Russia for the summer instead. Leaving their relationship on a unfinished note, Yuna and David Hollander suffer in a fatal car accident. Shane has to navigate grief, confusion, and a new team, all while craving the one man he can't have.

Summary
“English is… is not first language,” the woman said quietly. Her accent was thick, and unmistakably Russian.
“Oh, sorry! I’m speaking too fast, aren’t I? Sorry,” she took a breath, and held out her hand. “I’m Yuna,” she repeated. The woman took her hand quickly, her hands bony and delicate.
“Irina,” she replied, before gesturing for Yuna to sit with her. Quickly, Yuna did. “Sorry, I have not been in Canada long.”
“No problem at all; welcome to Canada! Is that your boy?” Yuna asked, gesturing over to the child that had similar hair to Irina, which was poking out from under his helmet. He was taller than Shane, though his little hockey outfit still seemed to still dwarf him. He had a serious look on his face, but his eyes were light as he watched the other boys play. He was tapping his stick on the ice, clearly itching to get into the game.
“Ah, yes,” Irina nodded, taking a few seconds to translate the question, “Ilyusha.” Irina looked over at her son, a small smile on her face. “Is my Ilya.”
Or: Ilya and Irina move to Canada for a fresh start when he is six years old. He meets Shane Hollander at ice hockey practice, and they grow up together (and of course, fall in love).
