And she has her own predisposition to not like most things, so inevitably pretty much everyone ends up giving her some reason or another to be annoyed. It’s just… it’s better to know that it’s coming, to not do something stupid like think that Peter will be different and be disappointed later on.

Jayce was going to die. Right here, in this lab, from sheer secondhand embarrassment and utter confusion.
Sky thought they were together. She wasn’t the only one. And instead of correcting her, Viktor had— what, silently agreed?
A single kiss was one thing. Dating was quite another.
“I, uh,” Jayce started, but he had no idea where he was going with it. “Thanks?”
The rise at the end of his tone made it sound like a question. Though, truly, what the hell else was he supposed to say? No, Sky, don’t feel bad, you’re not silly, because actually, we’re not together, despite the fact that apparently the entire city thinks otherwise? That wouldn’t make things awkward at all.
Sky beamed, clearly relieved. “Oh, good! I was worried for a second there. But really, I think it’s great. You two just… fit, you know?”
Jayce did not, in fact, know.
OR: Viktor kisses Jayce instead of telling Sky he isn't interested like a normal person. Cue the gossip mill, and Jayce and Viktor pretend to be in a relationship until it dies down.
For purely practical reasons, of course.

The words were out of his mouth before he’d even had the chance to process, and he nearly froze, not sure what possessed him to say such a thing. He opened his mouth, ready to do damage control, before—
Jayce barked out a laugh, loud and unrestrained.
“Yeah, well. Sorry for worrying about my partner.” Even through the faint sarcasm of the statement, the words were suffused with such fond, familiar warmth that Viktor felt his breath catch in his chest.
Partner?
Well. That certainly explained the touch. And the warmth in his voice. And the way Viktor leaned toward him instead of away— an innate response. This, at least, made sense now. Viktor had not dared to include this option as one of his preliminary hypotheses.
They were together. Dating. Whatever the most adequate term would be.
OR: Viktor gets amnesia, logically concludes he and Jayce are together, and starts running experiments to confirm it. Jayce is whipped. That's the fic.

“Ah,” Yusuf’s baba said solemnly. “I think it is safe to assume that your worst enemy goes by the name of Nicolò. I will pray to Allah that he may merely be someone you meet on a trade trip across the sea, and that this name does not forebode anything more sinister.”
Yusuf nodded, and he let his baba turn over his right arm carefully towards the light, so they could read the name written there.
“Now, my son,” Yusuf’s baba said in a joyful tone, “let us see if we know your beautiful soulmate already, or if you will have to be patient a little longer.”
The rosy light of dawn crept through the windows, and neither his baba nor Yusuf had any trouble reading his Mark. For on Yusuf’s right arm, in the same bold black letters, stood the name again.

He notices that House eats the yogurt first because he knows that Wilson’s favorite parts of the parfait are the fruit and the granola, notices that House has beautiful flashing blue eyes and a gorgeous smile. He notices House’s cute little habit of playing with his own hair when he’s bored and the way House likes his coffee; black with an ungodly amount of sugar.
Wilson notices things in himself that weren’t there before either. He notices that his heart is beating far too fast, that his face is hot, that his fingers twitch with anxiety and that he can’t stop himself from scratching the back of his neck. He’s so tired from losing sleep over the issue that he can barely stay awake, even with House looking him in the eye the way he is right now.
