Sexual assault. He rolls it around in his head. It’s ridiculous.
It’s a messed up, life ruining accusation. He’d never do something like that to any girl; the idea is positively mental. It makes him ill. His parents raised him well, taught him the importance of consent: No means no, respect her boundaries, ask first, all of it. James Potter would never take advantage of someone sexually. But that’s not what he’s been charged with, not exactly.
The lake… it doesn’t count. It was a stupid prank, it’s what the Marauders are known for, their source of infamy. It didn’t mean anything beyond that. It’s not like he’d known Snivellus hadn’t been wearing any trousers when he cast Levicorpus, it just happened that way, and he’d only gone further because he’d called Evans that awful word.
OR
James Potter overhears a conversation that prompts him to consider his actions and issue an apology to one Severus Snape or risk being taken to court.

Summary
Hagrid has a crush. Well, really it's more of an—infatuation. A passing interest. A—It doesn't bear thinking about really. Because nothing will come of it. At least, that's what he keeps telling himself until one night's offhanded offer to be there for a certain potions professor—as a listening ear, you see, nothing untoward—turns into him finding out far more about the man than he ever expected to. And helping where he can, because Hagrid has always been a champion of the outcasts and the unloved and the dangerous, in what little ways he can be, and he finds that Severus Snape is no exception. Especially when Harry's third year brings with it a new DADA Professor, and opens up old scars most of the faculty hadn't even been aware of.
