After Shadow Milk Cookie was defeated, there was nothing fun left to do. Everything returned to how it was before. Monotonous.
Except for the fact that the timeline was still rather unstable and the future was, for some reason, inaccessible, but surely that's unimportant.
Left to rot in her boredom, Timekeeper Cookie decides to do something almost out of impulse. Surely, it was out of her control! Who could've predicted that the unstable trapped time criminal would do something... Unpredictable???

They peered into the box. “Waffles, waffles… more waffles.” A sigh. “Are these wires even enough? Eh. Whatever.”
Then, without hesitation, they hopped down and motioned for the robot to follow.
“Let’s head back. We need to fix the lights before nightfall.”
Shadow Milk, still floating near the ceiling like a bored specter, considered his options.

Once the Fount of Knowledge, then the Beast of Deceit, and now, a Soul Jam-less, powerless wanderer trapped in his own other realm. This unwelcome plot twist had really thrown a wrench in Shadow Milk’s grand plans for vengeance. And to top it all off? Pure Vanilla was here too! To act saintly and get in his way and poke his nose into everything Shadow Milk was trying to hide. Oh joy! Surely nothing bad could happen!
Will Shadow Milk get his revenge on Dark Enchantress for backstabbing him? Will Pure Vanilla lose his sanity again? With they get back to Earthbread and reclaim their Soul Jams or will they throttle each other first?

Summary
At the cusp of defeat, Shadow Milk gets transported to a backwards world: Dark Enchantress was sealed away before she could do any lasting damage, the Beasts never came to be, and the Ancients rule over an otherwise peaceful world.
Oh, and apparently his counterpart is dead and hailed as a hero. Because his life wasn’t already complicated enough.

What happens when the guy who basically saved all of cookiekind comes back as an evil, corrupted version of himself?

He tried, but a tear slowly rolled down his face instead. Shock spread across his face, as if he forgot he could do that. He turned to his minions, seeing them battered and bruised, yet still willing to serve him. He felt a small spark of warmth, a feeling he thought would never happen again in his immortal life. Two cookies that would be at his side, no matter what he did. That made him smile—a small one, not the usual one he wore while performing, but something real, rarely seen by others, only by the other virtues long ago. Seeing the two willing to face danger to protect him, they deserve more than being his minions.
They deserve much more than that.

Shadow Milk Cookie has gained much since he'd started dreaming with Pure Vanilla Cookie, and lost more than he'd have ever imagined. Even powerless, he's not one to roll over and accept his defeat so easily. If there are means to make steps towards his goals, he will take them. Even if he's quite possibly signed himself up for failure, given he's promised to ensure the other Beasts will also stay their hands when the war with Dark Enchantress comes to a head. Inasmuch as it's likely an impossible task to undertake, there are worse things he could be attempting in order to assure his continued freedom.

To have the other's skin under his palm, to see how the tattoo blended with the blue of his body and the scars that he was sure dotted the places he’d been hurt. But that would do nothing except scare him off. Pure Vanilla wasn’t even certain that the gift he’d prepared today wouldn’t be too much for the other to handle.
But, he had nothing to lose but his will to try. And Pure Vanilla was certain that he would never lose the desire to make his other half understand the depth of his emotions.
