Ryland has been aboard the Hail Mary for just over two years now, just barely having escaped the gaping maw of the eel that terrorized him and his crew on the SM-8 on that wretched moon. He's mostly settled into the calm of the life he's found himself in, allowing himself to hope for a better future with the promises of a brand new life on Erid with Simon. but yet, no matter how far he has come in trying to move on from his time trapped within the SM-8, bits and pieces always find their way back to the forefront of his mind when more of his memories start to come back to him.

This was a slippery slope. Slipperier than growing too comfortable on Erid and in the house with Grace. Slipperier than falling into the wrong crowd on Eden and ending up in prison. Slipperier than the blood as it poured in through the gashes of the submarine.

Simon wakes up in an unknown place with the scars of his previous life etched onto his skin. As he struggles to pull himself into focus, and listen to the angel living here who's spouting off information, he realizes that the C.O.I. and Eden can no longer reach him. For some reason... that stings. As Simon attempts to get used to his new appearance from his time in the submarine and figure out how to uphold Eden's legacy, Simon realizes that he may have a bigger problem to deal with. The pain from his injuries is manageable, it's the newfound knot in his stomach that's confusing. While Grace is focused on how Simon even ended up on Erid in the first place, Simon spends his time focused on a much brighter, more bubbly individual...

Ryland Grace lived his whole life wondering why his soulstring stretched out all the way to the sky. It took him a one-way ticket to Tau Ceti, another one-way ticket to Erid, and a special delivery in the form of a bloody submarine to finally learn the answer. It is strange, though, how his soulmate never seems to address their soul string but has a habit of staring deep into his eyes.
AKA; A soulmate AU where Simon arrives on Erid five years after Grace did. The two of them learn how to heal from the past and feel excitement for a future they never expected to have.
