Daisy was used to being angry. She was used to that fire which burned bright and insistent within her, used to clenched teeth and a feeling in the tips of her fingers like claws lived just beneath their surface, pressing at the flesh and begging to be let out. She was used to the feeling of a maw in place of her heart, bloody and slavering and open wide to clamp down on whatever it was which had chosen to earn her ire that time.
She did not know what it was like to be weak. She did not know what it was like to not have purpose, to not have strength, to not be allowed to follow instinct to the next thing which would rejuvenate her. She did not know what it was like to take her own wrist between her teeth, to weather the fragile-feeling bone in warning and worry, to keep herself from reaching for what would only entrench herself in it all again.
