For the first couple of days, Heather slept nearly constantly. Apparently that was something normal and to be expected, but Veronica couldn’t help but keep glancing over her shoulder while she tried to do homework. She looked so small in her sleep. Small like she’d done in her state of near-death. That image would haunt Veronica for the rest of her life.

“So why are you in Oakhurst?”
Someone tried to murder me by burying me alive, but they messed it up so now I’m lost and have no idea where I am. Or who I am.
“Oh, I was traveling.” Scott answered mildly. “Got a bit bored of my home, so I left. Wanted to see what was out there, you know how it is.” He made some vague gestures. “Got a bit lost though, so I ended up here. What did you call it again?”
“Oakhurst.”
“Oakhurst…” Hm, sounded vaguely familiar.
or : in which Scott wakes up from his sleeping curse but his memory very much does not, leaving a very confused vampire with some serious memory issues who has no idea he’s a vampire in the first place. Surely this can only go well!
