Summary
The town of Palmetto was unsightly, and Palmetto High was even worse. Neil was only here for his mother's ring, hopefully buried in the creek where Mary last left it. One step on school grounds and he almost gets pummeled into a locker. His earrings jingled to be of use, and a pair of eyes, on him at all times, egged him to fight. Dangerous, yes. Neil should've known nothing good comes easy. One look at the underground arena, and he wanted in.
or; in a world where supers are illegal, Neil rediscovers his locked powers and the Foxes, a group of illegal supers who indulge in underground superpower fighting to make a living

Summary
The smart thing to do was bail. Even if Kevin didn't know who he was, this was a terrible idea. The Foxes spent too much time in the news and it'd only get worse with Kevin on the line. Neil shouldn't submit himself to that sort of scrutiny, especially not with Naomi at his side. Naomi wasn’t only missing from the Wesninskis’ circle; she was a child reported missing to the police. Her infant face had only stopped showing up on milk cartons a few months ago.

Neil Josten brings a little girl he claims is his sister with him to Palmetto State University. It doesn't take long for one of the more cynical Foxes to realize that the girl isn't related to Neil at all.

Summary
His mum held Nathaniel down as she let the chemicals soak into his eyes.
It burned, different to how his shoulder did when father pressed the iron to it years ago. His shoulder had burnt with a searing heat that he could not escape; bright and all encompassing. Afterwards it felt like pulsing coals against his skin; a never-ending throb of burning pain that pulled and demanded his attention. Nathaniel had grown used to pain over the years. He was able to keep quiet when his father or one of his friends put their blades to his skin. Nathaniel had gotten used to preparing himself for pain whenever he saw his father or Lola in particular.
Maybe that was why the pain felt so much worse this time.

Summary
“Your mother left very specific instructions regarding her will. Her house, her money, everything in her name, really, is going to one person.” The lawyer continues flipping through the papers. “One I'm afraid isn't you.”
Aaron looks at the lawyer and then starts to laugh. He laughs so hard he's sure it's bouncing off the walls and ricocheting back into his chest just to be laughed out again. Suddenly he stops. “Who'd she leave everything to?”
“I'm afraid I cannot say.”
Aaron snatches the paper and reads it. “Who the hell is Andrew Minyard?”
(Or: When his mother dies and leaves everything to Andrew Minyard, Aaron is left with one problem: he has no idea who Andrew Minyard is.)
