**TRIGGER WARNINGS**
*Internalised homophobia and conversion "therapy" are the main parts of this story. I promise a happy ending - Ilya is going to get a queer and allied posse together to fight this, but it's going to be a rough road getting there*Shane had wanted to help Ilya, that’s why he did what Ilya wanted. That’s why he took off his clothes and why he told Ilya to tell him everything in Russian. He wanted Ilya to feel better. Shane could bear pain, being thrown into the boards was practically a daily ritual. The few fights he’d had on the ice, off the ice even, paled in comparison to the fear of the pain he put Ilya through. When Ilya told him everything in Russian, Shane knew two things: Ilya was in pain, and Ilya wanted Svetlana.
Afraid of hurting Ilya, the disappointment of his mother, the embarrassment of the league and his teammates finding out, Shane makes a radical decision - he admits he's gay, and decides to stop. He embarks on a treatment of conversion therapy to make everything better for everyone.

“This is a stupid dream,” Shane mutters, scrunching his eyes closed even harder to let in less light. “Why are you here?”
Rozanov hesitated, almost sounding startled when he spoke. “Is not a dream. I am here because I love you.”
Shane’s eyes do snap open at that. He can’t focus on Rozanov either, but he tries really hard. “What the fuck?” They did not have THAT kind of relationship. In fact, the last time he’d seen Rozanov, the man had fucked him silly then practically kicked him out of his hotel room without so much as a thank you or a kiss.
What the fuck was this love shit?
The man’s shoulders slump and he sits back in his chair. “Oh, Shane.” He sounds so disappointed. “The doctor said—I thought when you woke up again—”

They say most accidents happen at home. Shane has a catastrophic one in his parents' garage and loses 9 years of his memories. The last thing he can fully remember being in the elevator and almost sending several text messages after an evening with Rozanov in a hotel suite. All Shane knows is that Rozanov and his parents are in one place, and that's his biggest nightmare.

It was a Friday when the video dropped.
“What is happening?” He asked St Simon, who was holding his phone tight to his chest, his expression odd. “Someone has died?”
Across the room he could see Marlow moving slowly upright from where he had been doing floor stretches, his phone in his hand as well, his face pinched.
“It’s Hollander,” St Simon said.
The bottom of Ilya’s stomach fell out, closely followed by the rest of Ilya’s organs. His chest hurt so acutely that he thought he must be having a heart attack.
“Not dead,” St Simon added quickly, reaching out to grab Ilya’s shoulder when Ilya’s knees actually buckled. “Jesus, sorry. I should have - no it’s just -”
“Someone tell me what the fuck is going on,” Ilya snapped, “and everyone else shut up.”
Marlow reached him now, held his phone out to Ilya, open already to an article with a headline huge enough Ilya could easily make out the HOLLANDER blaring out of it even before his eyes focused and he took the phone from Marlow.
A video is posted online, for Shane it feels like a death sentence. For some parts of him, it is.
