If you were to ask Barry why he had gotten so anxious, he wouldn’t have had a rational reason. It was like a nervous build up inside that came and went with no warning. Cisco was right, Barry had been way less worried about it before. This nervousness, this awful energy, he had no control over it. He wasn’t even fully aware of it most of the time. It was just this build-up. His insecurities came out, his self confidence went away. When his self-confidence left, it left a void behind. This empty space could only be filled with anxiety, and that was if he was lucky. On the unlucky days, nothing filled it. There was only the quiet. Anything hurts less than the quiet. Some people say the silence gives you space, and sometimes this is true. However, in this case, quiet is violent. The internal quiet in a room full of noise however, this is unbearable.

“Don’t close your trunk yet,” he yawns. “You forgot your hoodie.”
Albus tilts his head to see. “Nah, I won’t need it,” he shrugs.
Scorpius feels like he’s been slapped. Albus doesn’t go anywhere without his green zip up. Just last year, he’d been an hour late to their weekly wizard’s chess tournament, simply because he hadn’t been able to find it. It’s well-loved, soft from being worn and washed over and over and over, with the ends of the sleeves frayed where Albus has a habit of tugging at loose threads. It’s like a second skin to him, at this point. There’s no world where Albus simply leaves it at school without caring enough to bring it home with him.
Suddenly, he’s scared he might throw up. A voice in the back of his head pipes up, quiet and cruel and crushingly honest. Unless he’s not planning on coming back.

Scorpius, from personal experience, knows the outward signs of especially dark thoughts. When Albus starts exhibiting them, he makes a choice.
