Summary
Hallucinations greet Kakavasha in the place of his vision, on the bridge between his mind and his barren optic nerves. Visual and strange, like daytime dreams with no tether to the appearance of reality. Kakavasha sees his own face in these visions, abstract and inhuman. He sees his big sister, standing far in the distance from him, crouched on the ground but smearing away in an array of brand new colors that never existed when he was sighted.
What if Aventurine really did sell his eyes?
A canon divergent story that focuses on Aventurine through the events leading up to Penacony, his mission, and the bittersweet aftermath... and falling in love with his colleague, Dr. Ratio.

Unbeknownst to anyone - except for Elio, naturally, and perhaps certain Memokeepers here and there - a few scattered sentences make the difference in whether or not young Kakavasha is spared six more Starcalendar years of exploitation and abuse.
An AU in which the future Aventurine still falls into the orbit of the IPC... except early enough that his emotional development as a person won't be quite as derailed by trauma as it is in canon and can instead be derailed in a variety of new and exciting ways. Featuring weird pet snakes, vaguely questionable ethics, and probably just a little too much focus on interior decor.

Summary
The Ten Stonehearts of the IPC's Strategic Investment Department aren't all that close - at least, not according to the Pier Point rumour mill or interastral tabloids. Emotional connections between them would only be a weakness in their... riskier transactions, so it works out nicely that the best thing you can really say about any of their relationships is that they're professional and cordial.
