David and Patrick have several vendors who live on islands in Lake Huron, so they periodically visit them by boat to pick up stock for the shop. Unfortunately, storms on the Great Lakes aren't unusual, especially in the fall, and can blow up suddenly and are often severe. Not everyone makes it home. But no storm or shipwreck can keep David and Patrick apart.

“Why did you have to go and get traded?! You realise we’re going to have to see each other every day from now on, and play together, and-”
“Yes,” Ilya interrupted. He didn’t want to know how long Hollander’s list was. “I know.”
Hollander took a deep breath. “Okay, listen,” he said. “Just so we’re clear - we don’t know each other outside of playing against each other, right?”
“Right.”
“And we can’t- can’t hook up anymore.”

OR: Ilya gets traded to Montreal in October 2014. He's lonely, and angry, and he misses Boston. He doesn't know if it helps that Hollander is there or not.

Ilya lets out a low, booming laugh, a heavy, triumphant energy radiating from his whole chest. He slams his hand down onto the dark wood of the table. "Lestat. Jamie. Our free week. It starts exactly on July 7th."
Lestat bolts upright in the booth, his silver-ringed fingers gripping the edge of the table as a breathless, dramatic gasp escapes his lips. "Oh, my god... the stars haven't just aligned, Ilya, they are practically screaming at us! We fly out of New York on the 6th, we land in Pamplona on the afternoon of July 7th, and we are safely in the city when the madness is already underway. We can watch the chaos unfold on July 8th to study the terrain..."
"On 9th, two days after festival begins," Ilya interjects, his eyes flashing with raw, athletic adrenaline, "if we get the nerve... we put on white shirts and red scarves, and run with beasts ourselves. We run with the bulls!"
