“How nice is this?” Ben asked when everyone had settled, and Carlos had to admit that for all the awkwardness of the situation, the heat was doing wonders for his sore muscles. Ice baths made scientific sense, but this felt right.
“It’s weird, is what it is,” Jack said, though his head was against the headrest and his eyes were closed. “What do we do now? Just sit here?”
“Ah, so glad you asked,” Ben smiled widely.
Carlos watched with spiked interest as Ben propped himself up, twisted around and over the edge of the jacuzzi, and bent to pick up something. When he proudly brandished a bottle of what looked like very cheap vodka, everyone groaned.
“We’re so gonna regret this,” Andrey chuckled, but he was already reaching for the bottle. Ben laughed as he gave it to him, and Carlos was watching all this like a car crash, in slow motion, with no power to stop it.

Ilya almost dropped his cigarette. His English was shitty, but he had studied that sentence enough times over the years to understand it immediately. He didn't even think about his words much anymore, but it was impossible to avoid them.
He turned instinctively, and was face to face with Shane fucking Hollander.
Out of almost seven billion people, of course Ilya's soulmate had to be his fated rival. It was almost poetic. Still, Ilya had enough sense to realize just how bad this was.
or, Shane says Ilya's soulmate words. Ilya vows to never speak a word to him to keep him from finding out. They fall in love anyway.

“No, not really,” Rozanov said. Some of his teammates laughed, although they mostly looked surprised that Shane was speaking to them at all. Rozanov didn’t laugh, though. “Are you Russian?”

Ilya lifted his head, eyes blazing. “You wanted to know how to dance with a girl,” he said quietly. “I’m showing you.” His thumb swept along Shane’s lower lip, then pressed gently until Shane parted his mouth again. Ilya leaned in, gave him another searing kiss. Shane leaned into it, desperate. Every inch of him leaned.
When Ilya finally pulled back, Shane chased him, lips chasing his. Ilya smiled, pleased, before catching Shane’s jaw in one large hand, holding him still. He studied the flushed face, the glassy eyes, the swollen mouth. “That’s how you do it,” he said, low and final, as if stamping a grade on an assignment. He rubbed his thumb over Shane’s cheek one last time, then stepped away.
Shane tries to date a woman. Ilya shows him how it's done.

Jannik was coming for him.
He didn't enter hoping for the best or in the idea that something else could change, or even perhaps that he'd settle. Carlos was fully aware that as soon as the horn blew, there would be an Alpha locked in trying to find his concealed scent.
And he won't stop until he finds him.
Instead of it filling him with panic, maybe even dread, Carlos smiles, rolling his neck around and doing a sideways shuffle.
Well, if it's him that he wants... he better earn it.

Out on the deck, the sun is so bright Carlos has to shield his eyes from the blinding reflections dancing on the deep blue of the lake.
"So beautiful," Jannik says. He has come to stand right behind him to look over his shoulder, but Carlos doesn't need to look to know his exact position, the exact scrunch of Jannik's face in studious awe as he contemplates the lake.
A part of him always knows exactly where Jannik is, a part of him always tries to figure out exactly what he's thinking. Years of playing Jannik have left their mark, and now Carlos couldn't erase the knowledge even if he tried.
He ignores the warmth pooling in his belly.
After Wimbledon, both Carlos and Jannik only want to go somewhere no one knows them, where they can have a real holiday. When Juanki offers Carlos his holiday home, he invites Jannik along for some time away from the spotlight.
Away from prying eyes, will they become closer than ever? And what will happen when the world of social media notices their absence?
