For the most part, Robby likes living alone.
He likes the quiet of the mornings, drinking coffee with a book on the porch and nothing but birdsong to interrupt his peace. Likes the space, both mental and physical, likes cooking himself a meal or hogging the blankets knowing he won’t get in anyone else’s way. And when loneliness starts to creep in, he reminds himself what happened with all the people who’ve tried to walk that path with him before.
For the most part, Robby likes living alone.

when lonely cowboy robby's hot ranch neighbor jack comes to the horse rescue, robby falls head over heels almost instantly. slowly, neighbors blossom into friends blossoms into a quiet, heated, eternal kind of love.

Jack is a soldier. Robby is a menace. Robby is the romantic in the relationship. He likes to leave small notes all over for Jack to find. It's how he shows his love. Jack acts annoyed, but he isn't. He loves that Robby shows him just how much he loves Jack. Goofy Robby is the best and only a few people get to see that side of him, so Jack will never take that for granted.

“Well…” Robby said, exhaling softly, “actually, you see that blonde nurse outside? That’s my girlfriend.”
Jack froze.
Ms. Campbell seemed as caught off guard as Jack himself, the smile on her face faltering as the words sank in.
It made sense. Of course it made sense.

Or, Robby and Dana use each other as pretend significant others whenever a patient doesn’t take no for an answer. Jack, being new, has no idea about the arrangement.

(If Robby had asked him to stay, Jack would have stayed. Even with the financial struggles. Even if he couldn't afford med school without the army paying for it. He would have said okay, kissed Robby, and figured out something else.
