He had gotten into the habit of speaking to Jayce, even if he knew he wouldn't get an answer, at least not one he could understand. The siren responded by repeating the sound, a whistle and two clicks. Viktor furrowed his brow, unsure what to make of the situation.
"Is that what this is called?"
He tried to recall if he'd ever heard Jayce make the series of noises before; he frankly wasn't sure. Jayce reached out a hand, giving the fish a gentle push, moving it closer to the glass barrier separating Viktor from the tank. Viktor slowly knelt down, keeping his eyes on Jayce as he did. He still remembered Sky's warning: sirens had been known to kill humans.

He perches on the edge of his bed, clad in his thickest sleep clothes as a defense against the chill of winter. For the first hour, he keeps hope. Jayce would be making his excuses for the evening, maybe finishing his wine or wishing a friend who will leave early in the morning a farewell. Viktor toys with the pendant around his neck, a holiday gift from Jayce, something he hasn’t taken off in the week since it was given. It’s the only fine thing he keeps on himself, the only thing he feels properly deserving of wearing.
When Viktor allows himself to fall back against the bed, exhausted, he's all but given up. Viktor sniffed, hiding his wet eyes against Jayce’s shoulder, but he didn’t let go. His fingers stayed tangled in the fabric of Jayce’s gray sweatshirt.
“I’ve never had a friend like you,” he whispered, voice soft under the sounds of the forest. “Someone who is…”
“Kind of a loser?” Jayce offered.
“Gentle.” Viktor huffed a tiny, broken laugh. “But meeting your mom yesterday… I see where you got that gentleness from. W-Why you'd say things about loving people and finding them beautiful.”
The older boy shifted in the hug, no longer clinging, but letting himself enjoy it. He looked at Jayce, eyes still wet and shining, and Jayce couldn’t help brushing away the last tear that slipped down Viktor’s cheek.
From his eyes, Jayce’s gaze drifted to Viktor’s lips. He shouldn’t — this wasn’t the moment for that. But when he forced himself to look back up, he realized Viktor was staring at his lips too. A quiet, mutual confession.

Summary
As far as punishments go, rebirthing a once terminally ill man - whose obsession with human perfection drove him to almost end humanity - in a hospital bed in palliative care could be seen as a little on the nose. To make it the same one he woke up in all those months-years-a lifetime ago, especially so. But Viktor can’t help feeling it’s far better than he deserves.
Viktor emerges from the Arcane, alone. He’s not sure he can navigate a world that doesn’t have Jayce Talis in it.

“Shit, I’m sorry. I–” Before Jayce can continue speaking, Viktor cuts him off. “I want to work with you, but you need to respect me too. This is a mutual relationship.”
He walks off. It’s not effectful like any movie. He’s walking a bit wonky, his cane moving on the floor in an uneven tempo. Jayce can technically just reply–or catch up to him–the space isn’t exactly large, but he doesn’t. It feels like quiet respect. Like a “I hear you, I’m sorry”. Like he understands that Viktor wants to be alone right now and is trying to mend their relationship. Viktor appreciates it.
As he closes the door on Jayce, he hopes that the next race will be better.
Or
Jayce is an up-and-coming Formula One driver who has recently moved teams in hopes of snatching the championship. Viktor is his race engineer and trying to help him reach that goal.
A tough start to the season creates friction between the two and complicates things, though.

As he puzzles together the broken fragments of his being and how he fits into the seemingly equally broken world around him, he clings to the tether of his supposed partner, who seems to need Viktor just as much as Viktor needs him.

Viktor should have made it.
Zaun had always been his city. He had grown up on these streets, survived their dangers, adapted to their cruelty. He should have been able to disappear.
But everything had unraveled too fast.
His body betrayed him first—his leg brace stiffened, his spinal corset locked, forcing him into painful, jerking movements. Every step sent shocks of pain up his back, the prosthetic’s nails grinding into his spine, a cruel reminder of just how much Jayce had woven himself into his body.
Then his mind betrayed him next—fatigue weighing his limbs down, his pulse pounding in his skull, his bond whispering, nagging, demanding.
“Return.”
“You are weaker alone.”
“Go back to him.”
He fought it.
But it was like trying to unwrite a law of nature.
Jayce was his Sentinel. His anchor. His constant.
And his body, his very biology, knew it.
Even if Viktor himself refused to.

Summary
“If you don’t come out, I will come get you.”
Hesitantly, Viktor turns and peeks behind the tree. A tall, muscular man with dark hair reaching past his ears and a full beard is standing ten feet away. He’s wet, only wearing a pair of linen pants, clearly just having gotten out of the waterfall’s pool. The pants don't leave much to the imagination and Viktor can’t help it, he knows a beautiful man when he sees one, so his eyes wander for just a moment.
“You’re a witch.” It’s not a question, the man states it as a fact, seeming to either not notice or not care that Viktor was blatantly checking him out.
“And you’re a werewolf,” Viktor guesses, still seated on the forest floor.
“If you’re here to spy, you’re doing a terrible job.” There’s amusement in the werewolf’s voice, which makes Viktor’s wariness falter.

Viktor is a runaway witch, one that King Silco will do anything to get his hands on again. However, Viktor doesn't have many options, so he runs to the closest place possible where Silco can't get him: The Talis Territories. He can only hope he doesn't get eaten by a werewolf while in enemy territory.
