Debates are formulaic; they're easy. Being political opponents on the neatly arranged battleground of a university campus is straightforward, if frustrating. Katara knows how to argue with Zuko, and Zuko's spent years advocating for the devil, so both of them manage to take a sort of comfort in clashing. The pattern breaks when Zuko crosses the metaphorical aisle, carrying more guilt than he knows what to do with and leaving Katara with a justified anger that has lost its target.
A contemporary AU where the Gaang is politically active in the university context, and Zuko has been the asshole thorn in their side.

However, when his family decides to move back to Hawkins after three years in California, Will has to face his former best friend, now practically a stranger, Mike Wheeler again. It does not go as planned.
Turns out there is more to the story about Mike ignoring Will than he initially thought.
And Mike just cannot stop staring at Will, who seems both so radically different and still so familiar compared to the boy from years ago he still dreams about at night.
