Adam sinks into the armchair next to Gordon’s bed. “Apprentice,” he corrects him.
Gordon stops eating. His eyes bore into Adam’s face. “You’re so young.”
OR: Adam and Amanda role reversal: Adam is the Jigsaw apprentice groomed by John to take over for him. Amanda is the girl locked in the bathroom with Lawrence. After Lawrence is saved by John, Adam is tasked with looking after him.

It wasn't often they lingered in public unless necessary. Compared to Lawrence and Mark, they were both considered recluses, preferring to set up traps and plan out things with John rather than putting on a facade of normalcy. Lawrence had a job as a doctor still, and Hoffman was a detective pretending to run in circles around the Jigsaw case with that weird little FBI agent. Strahm, if Adam remembers. Something weird was going on between those two; he'd bet his life on it. But Adam and Amanda didn't have anything outside of John.
Adam wasn't getting much money in the photography business, so the kids slowly started fading until he gave up looking, and Amanda hadn't held down a job in years. That left them with a lot of free time, in which they slowly formed a bond over time. If you had told Adam he'd somehow be bonding with the woman that kidnapped him and almost fucked him over by messing up his trap, he'd call you crazy. But, instead of killing him, Amanda had saved him after John abandoned him.
Or.
Amanda and Adam go to Chili's and bicker.

The pressure from the second beam was agony on his stomach as he pushed past it—his belly compressing into a space his ample chest could barely squeeze through—but he used his body weight to force himself behind it. He burped uncomfortably, his stomach sagging into the space between the two girders. It was an even tighter fit than the first and the metal pushed in the sides of his gut. It gurgled its complaint against the rough treatment, which Hoffman resolutely ignored. He’d be done soon enough.

This last game—the whole point of it was to recruit Dr. Gordon, she figured out that much. Somehow she’d missed that it was also to recruit Adam.
Two extra sets of hands, with the skills necessary to keep the games running long after John’s death, and morals just dubious enough to be convinced to do so.
And of course, the trauma bond was also part of the plan. As long as the safety of the other could be leveraged, they wouldn’t be a danger to the operation, and if one could be convinced of the power and necessity of the games, the other would follow quickly behind.
Once Amanda understood that, it made John’s last instruction all the more confusing.
Keep watch over Adam, and tell him nothing of Dr. Gordon’s involvement in his rescue.Or; What if Adam didn't die in that bathroom?

So now here he was, clad in black eyeliner, black nail polish, and a long sleeve wedding dress, white lace expanding across his chest, over his collarbones and about a third of the way up his neck, and down his arms to his wrists over a white bodice that turned into a poof skirt that extended around him down to the floor. The bride to be on the three year anniversary of that fucked up day. The day his life ended and began anew, when he learned what fear truly was, and what it meant to be trapped and helpless in mind, body, and soul, at the mercy of a man who should have wanted to put that bullet in him a lot sooner and a lot higher.

A sharp laugh, more of a snort than anything. “Sorry, a life of crime doesn’t really come with paid leave.”
Adam groaned, starting to get to his feet and ignoring the stiffness in his leg. The shackle had rubbed it raw, nearly damaging some nerves according to the doctor- the limp had taken a while to get used to but had eventually turned into more of an annoyance than anything.

“Lawrence–” Adam had cradled him as if he were a child. He was cold and shaking, and he’d stroked Adam’s face, staring up at him as if Adam were some distant, lovely star. “They’re– they’re g-gonna be okay. I…I promise.”
“I trust y-you.” His eyes shone, and then, softly, they slid closed. “You…wouldn’t lie to me.”
Adam stayed with him until his breathing stopped, until his body was cold as ice in his arms. He’d wept, and begged him to wake up, and promised him over and over that he’d do what he said, that Alison and Diana would be safe, that he’d do anything Lawrence asked, please, if he just woke up.
He hadn’t, of course. But Adam still kept his promise.
