It’s about the message. She’s not obsessed with Connor Murphy at all! She just wants to give him her thanks, for all his perceived suicide did for her. She can’t ever actually do that considering Evan Hansen is ALWAYS around Connor. She has to find a way to break them apart to be able to even talk to Connor.
TLDR: Jared and Alana share a common goal, an Evan and Connor break-up, and the two of them will do whatever it takes to complete that goal.
