It was a bit of a struggle to open the door but, eventually, Itsuki had managed to twist the knob, the door swinging outwards. "Excuse me! I'm here with Asuka Yuu! Could you please check on *their* injuries?"
There was a buzz in Yuu's chest, a very soft one. After being constantly misgendered during the bullying, it was relieving to hear someone affirm his identity, like a breath of air they didn't realise they needed. Someone out there understands, and it almost made them want to tear up in emotion, spin in circles and shout gleefully out of the window. They! They just feels so right!

Sometimes, she feels regret that she can’t spend more time with him, fulfilling the nurturing and ever-present role a mother is called to fill in their child’s life. Sometimes, Aya’s thoughts drift to half-lidded eyes under darkly tinted glasses and shudders at the idea that he still lingers in their city as a permanent reminder of the wounds he’s inflicted on her and her precious son. But when she opens their door and sees Maki happily chatting with his neighbor, his classmate, and his childhood friend, she feels a bit better about everything. That’s why she’s all too pleased to see an extra pair of scuffed up sneakers next to the usual deposits by her entryway.
