Summary
In the 1880's, the height of imperialism for many global powers, four completely different young adults are given the prestigious opportunity to study languages and translations at the esteemed language halls of Oxford to serve their country and strengthen the ties of the Silver so many empires have grown to rely on. The four supposedly lucky ones are:
Anthony, son to escaped slaves who believes peace is always an option.
Vimal, spoiled son who is coddled despite the harshness of colonialism happening outside his door.
Cathy, daughter to farmers who's never truly known peace in her life.
Ilse, daughter to a courtesan and Dutch physician who is very good at observing others.The four meet in their first year at Babel and completely click, realizing their similarities. As they grow older and become more and more aware of all the darknesses hidden from them, they decide to strike up a quiet rebellion to steal from the school and enact change through peace and nonviolence. Will it work? Or are they doomed to resort to violence under the threat of death?
Heavy Babel AU that's set in the late 1880's- early 1890's and follows the Hermes Society.

Centered around two protagonists, Kaska of the Northern Water Tribe and Akari of the Fire Nation, this story follows two young women with two very different paths on either side of the Hundred Year War.
Kaska is a new arrival in the Earth Kingdom, while Akari has lived her entire life in the colonies. The focus of this fic is NOT romance, but there's plenty of it to be found. My biggest inspiration for this is the Kyoshi novels, and, if you're a fan of Star Wars: I've self-indulgently dubbed this the Rogue One of ATLA.With General Iroh's infamous siege of the great walled city of Ba Sing Se set to begin, there's a lot ahead of them. Kaska gets to finally learn waterbending, and explore her unique connection to the Ocean Spirit, La, while getting roped into the local rebellion. And recent graduate Akari needs to step up and fill her father's shoes as Governor of Lu Dai, a colony city, as he leaves to quell unrest in the countryside. Featuring a few (LORE IMPORTANT and NOT GRATUITOUS) cameos spotted in the characters tags.

AU that diverges after #19: The Departure. Aftran 942 returns to the Yeerk Pool, unexpectedly alive after going on a quest to avenge her brother, Estril 731. Full of regret, she tries to honor her commitment to never take a host again, but finds it impossible. In canon, Aftran and others like her represented commitment to doing the right thing. Personally, I don't know what the audience was supposed to take away from the YPM. A group of only 100 Yeerks who made zero impact on the outcome of the war overall. If Applegate's point was that you can't boycott exploitation, she certainly accomplished that. I thought the YPM had massively wasted potential. This fiction is a thought experiment on what would have happened if the YPM had fully stepped into its role as an anti-slavery organization.
