"Nothing, nothing," Scar said, in a tone that implied there was absolutely something.
"I don't buy that for a second," Grian hissed. He reached up, missed the first time, and eventually managed to get his fists curled into the collar of Scar's shirt. It earned him another round of snickering. "Seriously, what kind of trouble's up your sleeves tonight? Are you just determined to make these next few minutes hell for me?"
"Oh? Little ole me?" Scar feigned innocence. "How could I possibly be bothering you, G? All I've done is get comfortable."
Further adding to the issue, he gave Grian's hips a teasing squeeze.

A period of peace will seem like an eternity to the upper class, when war emerges the aristocracy don't fight it, instead, they sit in their manors and estates, thanking God as to be so blessed to never see the barracks. They gorge on pheasant and aged wine, all the while the solders fighting beneath them are running on scraps, barely enough to keep them fed so that they do not die, or otherwise collapse on the battle field, they fight and hide their food not knowing when their supply will run out and whether their current meal will be their last. The men, destined to die, weep for their loved ones, their letters not being received by the very few who can read, the ones that can't, wallow in sadness and despair, losing hope that they would be in the few to make it home, to see their wives and their children once more.
tldr- Etho and Bdubs hide their relationship lest they get kicked out the military or possibly executed.
