    But we were all alone now, and I was sick and frightened, and the only thing I wanted, in all the world, was for somebody to hold me and comfort me. "Please," I begged him, recalling despairingly how little my pleading had mattered when his face was painted and his name had been Amber. "Please lie beside me for a while. I just- I need- I cannot-"

    In which Fitz convalesces and is comforted, in a myriad of unexpected ways.

Instinctively, I glanced at my own wrist, at the place where those fingers had once left their marks upon me, marks that had long since vanished.

    “Do you want me to give it back to you?” he asked softly, his voice trembling, not looking at me.

    I pressed my forehead to his temple.

    “I never wanted you to take it away from me,” I replied, lowering my voice as well.

    About a night that proves to be far more than merely the long-awaited beginning of summer for the Fitz and the Fool. About the night when their feelings for one another finally bloom in full and come into the open, resulting in a completely unexpected turn of events.

      ok now i’ve finished this and rote and what the heck do i do now. this was absolutely brilliant. malta is one of the best rote characters and i love this exploration of her character. i know she did meet fitz but this was better than the books. kennit drives me absolutely insane but there’s something about him as a character i don’t like him but he fascinates me. anyways nighteyes was perfect here and oh my fitzloved heart is happy. magnificent writing thank you. fitz and althea should have been friends (i can’t remember how they interacted in the book)
