It was then that he felt a connection to the monsters he now possessed. In no time at all Yusaku had made himself a family with the spirit of his deck."

By basically making a sequel to it.
Card spirits are more common than people think, as well as the number of people who can see them. Even though most people can't see them, the sprits are there, they make connections to their duelists. And duelists make connections to their spirits.
Come to DA North-West, where older duelists can learn the ins and outs of the dueling world. The teachers are eccentric, the spirits are sometimes malevolent, and the students might just know each other already....

Waking up bleeding from the nose is already a shitey thing, but then realizing you've gotten robbed is even worse. Of course, now everything is decided by a card game, and there's a whole bunch of things about to happen in the next few years. But hey, there's plenty of cards that people don't want, and it's not like figuring out how to use them is hard.
Discontinued for a rewrite. Really don't like the earlier chapters and decided I wanted to go for more consistent characterization.

You know how YuGiOh is a lot of card games with a little magic thrown into the mix? What if it was a lot of magic with only the occasional card game? That’s the idea we’re playing with here. No filler arcs. Minimal duels. Lots of character development, magic, and boys being cute as they save the world and maybe fall in love along the way. Literally no scene will play out as it did in the original show and we’re going to be deviating from the initial plot almost right out of the gate. The rare bits of content that do match the original narrative will be gone over as quickly as possible.
And while we're at it, let's fix the Egyptology, too.

A year and a half after the battle with Diva. So many months after sealing the Quantum Cube in Kaiba’s labs. Yugi feels more than a bit lost and restless. The grief is still raw. The Shadows are supposed to be locked to all but a few, until Yugi stumbles upon a new source of Shadow Magic by chance. Two brothers hold the Magic, their key to survival. And as he raises them, the question stands; could more of the next generation hold their Magic as well?
Something is stirring. Old magic is beginning anew. The Millennium Items are seemingly lost, so when some begin to reappear, along with a new threat, maybe Yugi can't handle it alone.
