"Are you scared of dying?" Tillie had once asked Owen. "I- wait don't answer that it's too... y'know."
"No, I understand. I, well, I'm worried about leaving my family behind, but I'm not scared of the act of dying."
"Why?" Tillie stared out the floor-to-ceiling window of her employer, into the green backyard. She stood completely still while on the phone, a dog pawing at her ankle. It all felt even emptier than usual. Of course, Owen's main concern with dying was other people. He was just that kind. Tillie had thought she knew her main fear, what comes after dying, but that felt so stupid now. She knew what came after.
