Aristophanes famously defined the concept of love not as the pursuit of holiness, but rather as a pursuit of wholeness. He described love as this innate drive to mend the rupture between two halves that were destined to be a whole, basically saying we are all in a quest to find the one person who perfectly molds to our being.
Max and Charles were lucky; they found each other quite young. But ever since they were fifteen, competition and rivalry have grown to be the third person in their relationship—the thing that always brought them together but also seemingly tore them apart.
